Lefkada (Lefkas) to Meganisi

After completing check-in and the mandatory briefing at the base, typically Lefkada Marina, you will begin the itinerary with a short and well-protected sail south. The route follows the Lefkada Channel and requires passing through the swing bridge, so checking opening times in advance is essential. Calm conditions and manageable distances make this first leg ideal for settling into life on board and getting comfortable with the yacht. The day ends on the quiet, green island, Meganisi.

Meganisi to Kalamos Island / Kastos Island

Distance: approx. 18–22 NM · Sailing time: approx. 3.5–4.5 hours

Day two follows a relaxed sail southwest from Meganisi toward the smaller, quieter islands of Kalamos and Kastos. Both islands retain a distinctly traditional character and offer a calmer, less developed Ionian experience compared to the region’s main harbours. Sailing conditions are typically favourable, often benefiting from a steady afternoon breeze that makes for a comfortable passage.

Kastos / Kalamos islands to Ithaka (Ithaki) with stop at Atokos Island

Distance: approx. 20–25 NM · Sailing time: approx. 4–5 hours

Today features a scenic sail south toward the legendary island of Ithaka, traditionally associated with Odysseus. The passage is ideally broken up by a midday stop at the uninhabited island of Atokos. Although privately owned, Atokos is well known for its deep, sheltered coves and exceptionally clear water, making it one of the most rewarding swimming stops in the Ionian. After lunch and a swim, continue on to Ithaka’s northern ports, most commonly Kioni or Vathy.

Ithaka (Ithaki) to Kefalonia

Distance: approx. 10–15 NM · Sailing time: approx. 2–3 hours

Day 4 is typically a short and delightful sail west across the narrow strait separating Ithaka from the majestic island of Kefalonia. Your destination is the renowned port of Fiskardo on Kefalonia's northern tip. Fiskardo is famous for being one of the few villages in the Ionian that survived the catastrophic 1953 earthquake relatively intact, preserving its elegant Venetian-era architecture. It is a bustling, chic port and a highly popular stop for yachts.

Kefalonia Exploration: Assos, Agia Eftimia & Sami

Distance: approx. 20–30 NM (total) · Sailing time: approx. 4–6 hours

Day 5 is dedicated to exploring the magnificent coastline and iconic villages on the north and east sides of Kefalonia. This is the longest and most ambitious day of cruising, taking you from the northern tip of Fiskardo down past the stunning Myrtos Beach and the picturesque village of Assos, ending in the busy, sheltered harbour of Sami. The day is characterized by dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and Venetian architecture, requiring multiple short sails and stops.

Kefalonia to Meganisi or Sivota (Lefkada)

Distance: approx. 25–30 NM · Sailing time: approx. 5–6 hours

Day 6 marks the long, rewarding sail north, beginning your journey back towards Lefkada. The passage takes you past Ithaka again, offering a final view of its rugged coastline before crossing open water toward Meganisi. The final destination for the night is Sivota Bay on the southern coast of Lefkada. Sivota is one of the Ionian’s most famous and well-protected anchorages, known for its deep, horseshoe-shaped bay, calm waters, and lively waterfront tavernas.

Return to Lefkada Marina

Distance: approx. 5–8 NM · Sailing time: approx. 1–1.5 hours

Day 7 is the shortest leg of your itinerary, focusing entirely on the required procedures for returning your yacht to the base. This gentle cruise takes you from the tranquility of Sivota Bay back up the coast of Lefkada to the main marina. This is primarily a logistical morning, involving a final fuel and water stop, packing and preparing for the formal check-out process. The atmosphere is generally reflective, enjoying the last moments on the water before returning to shore life.
